Bill Nighy (6 foot 2) - As i mentioned in the Reepicheep topic, its a bit of a shame they wasted Bill Nighy's talents on recasting a perfectly fine Reepicheep voice, as he would of made a briliant Puddleglum. Has the naturally tall and slender physique, plus a somewhat naturally dour voice and glum looking face, and obviously has fantastic dramtatic acting ability. Also has excellent experience of motion-capture performance (as Davy Jones in POTC 2 and 3) which would be very useful if they decided to do Puddleglum in a similar way.
Now that he's no longer Reepicheep, Bill Nighy has definitely gone up a fair few places in my list of preferred Puddleglum candidates. It would perhaps be a three-way tie between him, Stephen Merchant and Doug Jones, depending on what technique they choose to portray the character (CGI/Costume/Combination, etc)
I agree with icarus, Bill Nighy is very much one of my favorite actors and I so want him to be in a Narnia film. He would make a great Puddleglum!!

The more I think about it and the more I watch the direction of these movies, I really think that they'll do a part-CGI, part actor Puddleglum. Much like Mr. Tumnus and the Dufflepuds.

I'd much rather have him for Puddleglum than Uncle Andrew, that's for sure. But he's forbidden to do his weird slobbery chomping thing that he loves to do. (See Pirates of the Caribbean and Underworld)
But Bill Nighy is just one of those actors who can step into any role because he is just that good. I wouldn't mind it if they used some CGI on Puddleglum, Tumnus at least didn't look at all fake.

If either Stephen Merchant or Bill Nighy were to be cast as Puddleglum I would die a happy women.
I thought that about Nighy when he was cast as Reep - but you're right fantasia_kitty, he would make a perfect Uncle Andrew too!
I never even considered Merchant before - he already looks so lizard-y I can't think why I didn't! He does the odd-ball funny rather well, I'm not sure he could do dead-pan quite so well. It's definitely an exciting idea though.
It would take a great deal to trump Tom Baker after his Puddleglum in the BBC series - that, IMO, was absolute perfection.
I think Johnny Depp should play Puddleglum. He's a great actor that could certainly pull off the role. Besides his name would be a good draw to the audience.

Bill Nighy would be good!
hmmm, maybe Johnny Deep, though I can't picture him as Puddleglum.....

I agree that Bill Nighy would be a very good choice!
I stick with my opinion, Johnny Depp would just make the film about his character...it's a shame acually, he's a good actor but the industry has made him a bit too faimous
If they kept Johnny in a supporting role, I wouldnt mind it.

^Ditto to you Josh. I was trying to say it that way. It's not like SC is going to be a Tim Burton movie where he's always making Johnny Depp the center of attention.

I too think that both Alan Rickman and Bill Nighy, now that he isn't Reepicheep, would be a perfect Puddleglum! Perhaps that is precisely why they didn't choose Bill Nighy to voice Reepicheep in VDT, because they knew that they wanted him for the SC as Puddleglum!
"I'm a beast I am, and a Badger what's more. We don't change. We hold on. I say great good will come of it... And we beasts remember, even if Dwarfs forget, that Narnia was never right except when a son of Adam was King." -Trufflehunter
I have thought of Alan Rickman, and he was so perfect I had to dismiss him because I knew that I would be disappointed when he was not cast. The problem is that he is associated with Harry Potter, and the director may choose someone who isn't so tied to HP. (but then again, I've been voting for Kenneth Branagh for Uncle Andrew, and he's Prof Lockhart, so... ).

What about Frank Collison? He's tall and slender like Puddleglum, he's best know as "Horace" from "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" and many people compliment on his unique look most describe him as looking like a fish or frog. I think he would be perfect :

I had to bump this up because it just occurred to me that Matt Smith, the Eleventh Doctor, would be an interesting choice for Puddleglum. His face is long, and his facial features are crazy unique—"sunken cheeks and everything," to paraphrase Mary Poppins. He's also thin and fairly tall.
His acting style, at least as the Doctor, is very dry and understated too. Pity he's far younger than I picture Puddleglum—that kind of eliminates him from my point of view, at least, but it's a fun thought! Thoughts?
I think Bill Nighy would do very well, he has just the right voice and the thin face neccesary for Puddlglum, if he's not too old when it gets made.
Johnny Depp might also work, he seems to have a lot of "interesting" roles.
