There's been a lot of talk as to how Aslan has changed between LWW, PC, and VDT. Besides the obvious size bdifference there have been coloration and model differences as well, but we've never seen the pics side by side. I thought it would be cool to do a comparative analysis. Which version do you think looks better? more majestic? more realistic? Is there really that big of a difference?

I'll add more images later and comments.

Thanks for doing this wolversk. I've been thinking about it since the trailer came out. From the looks of it, Aslan looks closer to the LWW Aslan then the PC Aslan. And yet, still looks more real than the previous versions. Nice to see a comparison on how CGI progresses over the years. :D

Very nice pictures. It is interesting to see the variations that one can render when creating a CGI lion. I think I prefer the one from 2005. The PC one had a more stylized face, but it was still nicely done. The one from 2010 looks like a wild lion who would roam the plains of Africa. His mane looks rougher and course . He looks less regal somehow. Maybe its just me , I tend to over analyze things.

Great idea for a thread, wolfloversk! :D

starkat: Yes, I agree that he looks like he did in LWW. Personally, I like that change, because although I liked how he looked in PC, I've always been partial to how he looked in LWW.

MaidenofNarnia: Welcome to NarniaWeb! I totally see what you're saying about Aslan; and don't worry about overanalyzing things - you're in good company here! :p

My thoughts - Aslan looks slightly odd in the first picture from VDT in my opinion (I'm hoping it's just unfinished CGI). In the first set of pictures, I like how he looks in PC the best. He looks the most natural to me. In the second set, I like how he looks in the first picture, from VDT. He looks even better, more regal, and much, much bigger! :D

Is it just me, or are his eyes a different color now?

LWW

PC

VDT

In all honesty, I'm pretty much tied with the versions. I'd say the PC closeups were usually the best, except for the fact that they made his lip to shadowed so in looked like a fold or a hole in his lips.

I hope they do more work on his eyes for this movie, because PC and LWW had more emotion in them. I think his roar in VDT is the most realistic because in LWW his mouth opened too wide and in PC it looked odder (I can't seem to figure out why) I like the distance shot of him in VDT too. I was looking for a "full body" pose from LWW but couldn't find one, maybe you guys could help. I'm horible with internet searches.

I think all versions were really realistic, but I have issues with all three. In LWW his color isn't very consistent, it might be the shadow, but I'm not sure. In PC he improved color wise, but like I said before his lip was rally distracting, its harder to see with the picture I posted earlier so I'll look for another one. In VDT I also don't like the first shot, I think it makes him look like a stuffed animal, I hope that that's because its unfinished. I think the other VDT shots are much better.

*EDIT: Forhot to mention his mane, I think they made it darker in this movie, I'm glad of this because In the wild darker maned lions are thought to be stronger since studies have found that females are more attracted to them. I wish it was a bit less course though. The coursness makes it realistic, but too much makes it less majestic.

from what I have seen of VotDT, I think Aslan looks best in that movie! I can't wait to see more!
and he was good in LWW, but he looks best in VotDT, IMO :D
I didn't much like what he looked like in PC.....

I think he looked better in LWW in my opinion. He just looked more real to me. In PC he didn't look too real, but in VODT he looks like the real thing! I just love Aslan anyway...dont matter to me! ;)

I think Aslan looked terrible in PC. You could almost see the black line around his body. The hair didn't move right. The best bit was when he jumped and knocked that soldier off of his horse. Other then that he looked terrible on close up and he moved his mouth too much when he talked.

He looked so much better in LWW in that opening scene when he walked out of the tent and his hair was all wild. He didn't move his mouth as much either and he didn't do any quirky smiles.

I don't know about VotDT yet. He looks darker. I really think with a cgi character what is important is not to make the character look more realistic, but rather to make him look consistent.

I think they have done a terrible job making him look consistent. And then there is reepicheep looking very consistent to what he looked like in PC, maybe a little lighter, but still the same mouse.

I think he looked awesome in LWW. In PC he was a bit different, not quite as good, but to me it didn't seem horrible. It's hard to tell with VDT so far, because I don't think we've seen any really finished shots of him... the one with him roaring is very rough, needs work. But I do think he looks more like he did in LWW than he did in PC.

I think VDT is going to be my preferred Aslan; that first shot wolfloversk posted is took me by surprise in the trailer. He looks so much more real and tangible.

I pretty much want to hug him in all these pictures, though. ASLAN. *glomp* :p

Personally, I liked the LWW Aslan MUCH better than the PC Aslan. I love the shot from LWW that wolfloversk posted, where Aslan and Peter are talking - his profile looks so real! But there were some moments in PC where the CGI really bugged me.

I haven't seen enough footage of the VDT Aslan to form an opinion. As stated before, the CGI might not be finished. But as of right now, his fur definitely looks darker. I'm still not sure if I like that or not.

Has anyone considered the possibility that the filmmakers are making Aslan look slightly different on purpose? Maybe he'll have a different look in each movie (the PC Aslan being bigger, the VDT one having darker fur, etc.). I don't really know why they'd do that...but it's just a thought.

Aslan looks really good here in LWW with the kids

but in PC, his eyes look vacant and empty and emotionless
