The Second Measure: Sewing, Yarnwork, and other Needlework

I don’t have recent pictures but I’m on to the second sleeve of my sweater! I finished the body around the beginning of October, and decided that since I’d be trying it on for size several times as I worked on a sleeve that I wanted to finish the pockets before I did the sleeves. They were quick (they’ll have been the only bit of seaming in the whole sweater! I did try to do them seamless too but I was having trouble picking up stitches evenly for those so I resigned myself to some easy seams) and I was right: they made it much more fun to be trying on the sweater.

Today I started a project I’ve been putting off for a while now: I’m taking apart a large wool blend coat so I can cut it down to size to fit me. All I have done so far is ripping out the lining (which I’ll be replacing with a prettier color) and carefully rip out the seams on the collar and the shoulders so I can bring that all up. The denim dress I did earlier has served as a practice for that kind of thing. Complicating this one though is that I really hope I can keep the pockets as they are. Hopefully the amount I’m raising the armholes by doesn’t place them too high up. Nail biting

Unfortunately, when I got out my well-worn current coat I realized it’s swiftly passing from “worn but mendable” to “shabby looking” and there are mold spots on it. Apparently the storage this year was insufficent or else it was damp and I didn’t realize it. Sad I’m now trying to decide whether it’s worth the hassle of getting it cleaned in case I don’t finish the coat before it’s cold enough that I really need it, and hope the cleaning process doesn’t make the spots that need mending even worse, (and then take the time to mend them,) or if it’s better to take it apart at the seams so I can clean the mold spots more easily and then use the pieces as a pattern and perhaps (just perhaps, not a guarantee) be more confident in how good the fit will be in the new coat and finish it before it gets too cold. Alas, I really should have gotten to this project months ago.

The good news is, I have a good setup for my sewing machine now that gives me more workspace!

speaking of that denim dress, @lu_valient, thank you, that does make me feel better about all the times I’ve skipped ironing! Smile How is the sweater coming along?

@starkat that’s great! I know I’m very late in getting back to this, but how is the crochet coming?

I've almost finished the delayed trousers: I have only got the hems to sew.  Also well on with my dark brown cord ones, tweaked and tucked a bit. Just got a waistband and the hems to do!

There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

(And if anyone could possibly run us through how to post photos here — preferably embedded within the post, I mean, not as an attachment — I would be SO grateful. Praying

You should be able to just paste the link of the image in your message (you would have to host your image somewhere though, like imgur or something), and it should show up as a picture. If not, you can click on the icon of the brackets with the semicolon {;} and paste the link between the quotation marks in this code (delete the asterisk though):
