A few weeks ago I visited the town of Great Malvern in the picturesque Malvern Hills area of Worcestershire, England.
There I visited the old Malvern Priory and walked around inside. As I turned a corner I saw something clearly Narnian – very unexpected. The fangirl inside was rather excited to see this quiet nod to Narnia in one specific part of this splendid 900-plus-year-old building.
I had totally forgot that C.S. Lewis had a link with this area. Admittedly, I haven't read up a great deal about him or his works beside Narnia. However, I did watch a documentary a couple of years ago which mentioned the inspiration the Malverns and surroundings gave him whilst he was enrolled at school there.
Noting the sign (see photo!) we them came back outside to see the very lamppost that could be viewed through that area. You can see that viewing through the enclosed structure to the gaslamp outside could look like you're peeking through a wardrobe into Narnia.
I just had to share this sighting with you here, and I hope that's suitable for this forum. Apologies if it's been posted about before! Maybe some of you have already visited Great Malvern? Have you seen more nods to Narnia and Lewis around the surrounding area? What do I need to investigate (this time intentionally!) next? Or maybe this is helpful to see, as a Narnia fan, should you come to this area of the world sometime. 😀
... Oh yes, and I believe there was a café or restaurant named 'The Faun' further up the town. Surely not just a coincidence?
can’t speak for anyone else, but this was certainly news to me. Thanks for sharing
