On a similar theme to Gelfond's quotes, one of the lines from this weeks Press Release which stood out the most was the claim that Narnia will be "a feature film unlike anything you’ve ever seen or heard before"
Its a similarly bold claim to make as some of Gelfond's, and one that's much less attributable to the over-excited perspective of one IMAX CEO.
Its a line that makes me think of movies such as Fury Road, Tron Legacy, Sin City, 300, or Speed Racer - the sorts of films which really went for broke on the big, game-changing aesthetic designs.... The thing is though, nothing we have seen from the filming of Narnia so far suggests anything remotely like that. If anything, it all looks to be fairly traditional and conventional film-making so far, though admittedly we've only really seen a handful of sequences play out.
Perhaps they mean this statement in more of an avant garde type of uniqueness, maybe something more of a Tree of Life or The Fountain type of "unlike anything you've seen before"... but since i've definitely seen those two movies before, i'm guessing it can;t be anything like those films either.
Sure the Creation of Narnia scene almost demands an experimental, and completely out-there audio-visual aesthetic with a Singing Lion and all, but the rest of the story is actually much more grounded, and necessarily so to make the impact of that scene the more profound, therefore im super intrigued to see how this all plays out.
