Thanks for lighting a fire in the Town Square, Vern! Now to make sure nothing else catches fire.
Fire was a welcome addition to my Labor Day weekend, as we camped in a place where frosty nights aren't too far away. All in all a nice weekend, with crisp days and cool nights. Stargazing under a quarter moon was fun as well.
Nice to see familiar faces about - and a visit from Ben.
I suppose I should make an appointment with my pillow soon. I'm getting together with a former coworker for lunch on the morrow, and it'll be nice to catch up on the news. It seems both of us have had rather eventful summers.
*grabs a chocolate and vanishes into a moonlit night*
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
wow I haven't been here in a while, so much crazy stuff going on at my place
the festival was awesome, getting sunburned wasn't, we all looked like a bunch of beet faces as Narian_Archer and I called ourselves, it was fun though, there were games at night and medivial dancing, I didn't dance cause there weren't enough partners, but De_De and Narnian_Archer did The games were the best part, traditional Russian games, and playing them in the dark was super fun, though everyone get bumping into each other
I can't believe summer is over, it lasted forever and ended so soon, I hope you all are having a great, great beginning of autumn, although I am quite convinced that it is still summer here, the sun is still roasting hot but the air is cool, which is pleasant
*waves to all and departs, but promises to stop by here more often *
always be humble and kind
*pokes the Square to life and keels backward onto the ground in exhaustion*
This week was so tiring, not to mention crazy. I had three tests yesterday and two more today. Oh yeah. And quizzes, too.
*motions feebly from the ground*
Nice to see 'Gazer and wild rose about! Hope you both are doing well.
*mumbles something about Operation Flooding* Is there any particular day we're doing it?

Hello everyone! Sorry for not popping in for a few days.
So the other day, the girl who I've mentioned to some of you, texted me, and asked me to get some music for her, and then maybe play some for her wedding. Out of the blue. And she randomly said "Oh, and sometime after all this, we should have a girl date!". I haven't talked to her in a YEAR! And she randomly wants to be friends again. I guess I could ask for some prayer, how to be friends with her, and yet not get myself complicated and hurt when she finds someone else, like she will.
That's too bad about your flats being uncomfortable.
I'm still trying to wear in my newest pair. Band-aids are coming in handy.
What? I'm not the only one who uses Band-aids for my uncomfy flats?!!! lol, that's awesome. A good thing about it getting cold, I guess - I can wear socks!
But I've worn in my three new pairs, so unless I walk around too much, they're fine.
Wait.....you're reading GE as well, Elanor? Oh my goodness. How far have you read? *thinks both of the dresses sound lovely*
Yay! That's awesome. I already finished it a few days ago.
I've read it several times - was this your first, or not? hehe, thanks.
Well, I'm still impressed. It's a really good habit to let out feelings. I always bottled mine up inside, and that always ended badly. Hurray for happy spells! I've been in better spirits as well these past one or two weeks.
Journaling/diarying (:P) hasn't really felt like letting out feelings, because it's just writing them down, it's like the diary is me. But it does make me feel better. Because I can never ever tell anyone my feelings.
Shall we do Operation Flood tomorrow, sometime in the mid morning, or afternoon? I really don't know when I'll be on - maybe not at all, but I'll make sure to pm him by the end of the day, at least.

Tomorrow it is then, Elanor. I doubt a specific time will be necessary... I'd venture to say any time between noon and evening is fine.
I'm glad you seem to be on better terms with your friend; though if she's liable to hurt you again, you may not want to get really close.
I rarely RARELY ever wear socks with flats. But hey, I guess they work! And yes, I typically have to wear band-aids for a month or so until the new shoes are worn in.
Oh, haha. This is my first time reading Great Expections, yes. I'm on chapter 13, or somewhere around there. What are your thoughts on the book?
And now, because I haven't seen any of these around for awhile......

Could it be? Might I actually have time for the first time in a long time to post in the Town Square on a regular basis? *gaspgasp*
It definitely seems right since the last post by MissRosario has an old school ditto flag from way back in the day when I actually participated.
Well considering how slowly things seem to be moving in here, I don't think it will be a problem to start posting again on a regular basis.
*waves hi to Cor, Elanor, Gazer, Miss Rosario, wild rose, and all other regulars of this thread*
I guess I could ask for some prayer, how to be friends with her, and yet not get myself complicated and hurt when she finds someone else, like she will.
I tend to find that it's a very rare friend that at some point in the relationship doesn't hurt you in some way. I know that's a horribly negative and pessimistic way of looking at things, but at the same time I think it's realistic. But it also shows whether or not you have the ability and courage to forgive them and be a friend to them, even though they technically don't deserve it. This sort of behavior doesn't sound familiar in any way does it?
That's too bad about your flats being uncomfortable.

I admire you girls for suffering long enough to break your shoes in. (And your feet too! ) I'm an anti-uncomfy shoe person.
If I have blisters after the first five minutes of wearing it, the shoes go back to the store. Usually I go barefoot around the house (or during the winter I wear socks), but I'm a tennis shoes kind of girl.
Although recently I did get a pair of brown leather boots that I REALLY like. The funny part is that when I'm wearing them, I just radiate farmgirl.
I don't mind.
@Gazer, so did you get your first freeze last night like you thought you might?
Welcome back to the Square, fantasia_kitty! Great to see you here.
Regarding shoes: I am barefoot indoors whenever possible (I must be part hobbit) - and sometimes outdoors in summer. I also favor tennis shoes, and usually they're quite comfortable. I did get some blisters a few weeks ago at the State Fair however.
We didn't get frost this morning; I think it only got down into the upper 30s. But it's tonight they're predicting a hard freeze with temps all the way down into the upper 20s. It's so refreshing to have the windows open - it's about 50F/10C even now (around 1230).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
It's definitely cooling off here too. The high today is expected to be in the mid 60F range. The cool weather is a very welcome relief. It's been a long, hot summer with very little rain. It's not been quite as bad here as in Texas, but the corn and milo crops here did not make it. We've been praying for some real rain to fall with this cold front coming through.
But I've learned that apparently ground crops seem to LIKE these drought conditions. My potatoes we dug earlier this summer were the best and biggest I've ever seen. And I just dug my first sweet potato plant two nights ago (very early) and there were some lovely sweet potatoes on it. So I guess droughts aren't ALL bad.
I did get some blisters a few weeks ago at the State Fair however.
Our state fair is going on right now. I entered a lot of stuff this year and did remarkably well.
Small Sugar Pumpkins - 2nd place
Long Striped Watermelon - 1st place
Heaviest Watermelon (68.5lbs) - 3rd place
Apple Pie - 3rd place
Pumpkin Pie - nothing
Pecan Pie - nothing
Mild Salsa - 1st place
Medium Salsa - nothing
But yeah, I love the fair. I've outgrown the rides somewhat... they don't do much for me anymore. But I do go crazy on junk food there.
This year a couple new things they had were deep fried cookie dough, which was pretty awesome, but really just straight up sugar. And they also had something called a pulled pork parfait. It's layers of pulled pork, smashed potatoes, and baked beans, all covered with BBQ sauce. It was quite tasty.
But my ol' standby that I get like 3 or 4 of every year are something we call Pronto Pups here, it's a glorified corn dog. They're sooo good. I've only had two so far this year, but I'm going again on Sunday so I should meet my quota for the year.
Conga rats on your success at the state fair!
We make a point of going each year. I really don't do the rides any more either, but I've been on some 'kidway' rides of late since some of the younger kids insist on having 'uncle' come along with them.
(It's great fun having them along. Everything's new and exciting in the eyes of a child. And they love the animals).
Ahh, fair junk food. Anything 'on a stick' goes here. Pronto Pups are a staple here too. And this year I tried Pig Lickers - chocolate-covered bacon served cold. Sounds weird, but it was...interesting. It was all right and quite rich, but I don't think I'll have it again. There are too many other new things to try.
I was going to try Scotch eggs - hard-boiled eggs wrapped in sausage, coated with bread crumbs, and deep-fried - but wasn't quite up to it by the time I stood in front of the food stand offering them.
Now I'm getting hungry.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
*reappears from lurkdom*
School has been keeping me busy, but I'm back for a post. I actually ended up with the flu this morning. Whee. Something has been going around, but I was fortunate to get a lighter case of it - though the fever, chills, dizziness, and nausea were all still there. After eight hours of sleep, however, I think I'm heading back to normal.
Today was my first orchestra performance, so that was... interesting. I had to play my solo while sick. The results were not flattering.
*gaspgasps at FK's appearance in the Square* It has been awhile! I don't remember if we were around at the same time.... it was several years ago. At any rate, it's wonderful to see you posting in here again! *thinks a lot of old regulars may have the time to come back and post, considering how slow the Square has been crawling lately*
Hurray for old school ditto flags!

Yay, boots! I don't mind breaking in my shoes terribly, as long as I have those trusty band-aids on hand. That's a must. Heels are the only things [in the shoe world] that I really avoid due to discomfort. As for clothing... That's an entirely different matter, especially with skin-tight stuff. ACK. I appreciate being able to breathe.
Yes! I'm definitely prefer bare feet to shoes during the summer (and winter, too, as long as I'm not sick). I get into trouble sometimes at school for taking my shoes off during class.
It's definitely been cooling off here as well. I love cool nights, there is nothing quite like being able to snuggle down under the blankets. It's been in the 30's at night, 40's/50's in the morning, and 60's during the day. Autumn is just about here!
Conga-rats on your success at the fair this year, FK! *is getting a growling stomach at the talk of all this food* Om nom nom.
I always eat waaaay too much junk at the fair. And then it all joggles around during the rides.

Hello, everyone!
I don't have time for catchup this morning, but I thought I'd just drop in to say hi. Life has been very, very busy the last few days, with the wedding coming up - and now it's today!!! I'M SO EXCITED!! Yesterday and the day before we had rehearsal - including a dinner last night, with all of the bridal party. So the evenings/late afternoons have been taken up with doing, and the mornings with worrying/planning.
Being in a wedding is amazing. Yesterday me and Dennie went and got french manicures too!!
I love them!
And today's the day. My role in the wedding is 1, handling the guestbook, 2, playing the postlude music and 3, ---- SINGING LOVE STORY FOR THE RECESSIONAL!! I just found that out on Tuesday, and I've been practicing all day long.
And yesterday I was finally able to practice with my piano player. I think it'll go pretty well - I'll get nervous, and not sing super well (:P), and she might start out fast, which will make it much worse - it's a very hard song to sing, I gasp a lot. xDD Anyway. I'm excited.
So see you all later!!
I'll be back as soon as I can!!

*runs in* Help! They're after me! Giant textbooks and deadlines drawn in blood chasing me everywhere! Ahh!!
Don't you just love homework? And tests. And quizzes. And having multiple tests and quizzes on the same day. And spending your entire weekend doing homework. And that awful feeling you get when you realize you missed that one question on that quiz on Antigone.
Anyhow, good Mortereve everyone! I have a break in between my first two classes today and I realized that I hadn't poked my head in here in quite awhile so I thought I would pop in and see how everyone else is doing. So, how's everyone doing? I miss all of you.
I'll try to do a catchup post later today.
Ta-ta for now! *exits by way of chocolate tree*
Conga rats on your success at the state fair!
Conga-rats on your success at the fair this year, FK!
Thanks guys Last night I went and picked up all my phat lootz (ribbons and award money
) and melons. As I'm carting that huge 68.5lb watermelon out to my truck, I kept hearing all these comments behind me about how humongous it was.
Pretty funny. My husband and I decided to donate it to the soup kitchen in the hopes that they will be able to feed a lot of people some tasty watermelon.
An honorable end to the largest watermelon I've ever grown.
Speaking of watermelon, we picked the second largest watermelon last night and it weighed in at 55lbs. I don't know what I'm gonna do with that sucker. Chunk it up and feed my starving friends I guess.
Plus I left my 30lb watermelon at my in-laws house to devour, and there are still more melons growing. AHHHHHHH!!!!! Anyone want to come pick up some watermelon?
I always eat waaaay too much junk at the fair. And then it all joggles around during the rides.
That's why I always eat junk food AFTER I ride the rides.
Today was my first orchestra performance, so that was... interesting.
OOoh, what do you play? And I sure hope you're feeling better.
*gaspgasps at FK's appearance in the Square* It has been awhile! I don't remember if we were around at the same time.... it was several years ago.
The last time I distinctly remember posting in here with any sort of regularity was around the time LWW was released in theaters. That's been almost 6 years ago.
@Elanor, I hope the wedding you participated in (I almost said 'your wedding' and realized that probably wasn't the best way to word things) went well and whatnot. Can't wait to hear how things went!
Don't you just love homework?
No. School was always a mixed bag for me. I miss learning and being around my friends, but I don't miss the stress and homework and tests and everything else that went along with it.
Well I'm spending my morning fighting off distractions while writing my letters. It's Monday.
I imagine that none of you have any idea what I mean when I say "writing my letters." I work for a company that distributes letters on behalf of charitable Christian organizations requesting donations. I get a big stack of letters (250 this week) and I address envelops and write personalized footnotes at the bottom of the letter.
Even though it doesn't pay much, it's a great job because I can work from home, take on as much work as I want, and if I want to take a break, I can at any time. The downside is that my hand hurts after about 30 minutes of writing.
So here I am on NarniaWeb taking a break.
Hope everyone is having a great day!
*Ara strolls into the lovely Town Square, breathes the cool autumn air deeply and responds to the last five posts since that's about all she has energy for.*
When I was young, I always thought my attention span would get longer as I got older. Not so. I've been watching too many cartoons for little kids I guess or switching between Youtube videos that are 2 minutes long apiece.
And this year I tried Pig Lickers - chocolate-covered bacon served cold. Sounds weird, but it was...interesting.
I've actually seen a lot of chocolate bars with bacon in them. It must be somewhat edible because people are buying these things. It also sounds like one Pig Lickers would kill you, but you're clearly still with us 'gazer.
Oh no, Miss Rosa! I hope you feel better soon. I hate the flu and caught a light case of it last year when it was going around the dorms. (If you even live in the dorms, be warned that you catch every infectious disease that goes around.)
Concerts with solos sound nerve wracking. Being sick doesn't help. What instrument do you play?
I always eat waaaay too much junk at the fair. And then it all joggles around during the rides.
LOL! That sounds exceptionally dangerous for the people around you.
Ooh! Tell us how the wedding went Elanor! (And tell me who's getting married because I haven't been around and I'm clueless.)
Daughter of the king, I was about to comment on the use of "deadlines written in blood", then saw you were reading Antigone and it all made sudden sense. Anyhoo, I hope you get caught up on homework and quizzes and don't go too crazy in the process.
Well I'm spending my morning fighting off distractions while writing my letters.
Mwa ha ha!
Ahoy, mateys! It still be Talk Like A Pirate Day here on this island, but I bet for all ye landlubbers, that glorious day has already passed! But never fear, for avast, this pirate will...
...stop talking like a pirate now, because I don't know that much about how a pirate talks like.
I see that fantasia_kitty has returned to the Square. *waves*
This year a couple new things they had were deep fried cookie dough, which was pretty awesome, but really just straight up sugar.
Probably one of the markers of humanity will be its eternal struggle to come up with new and unusual ways to prepare and consume pure sugar.
And that awful feeling you get when you realize you missed that one question on that quiz on Antigone.

Ah yes, the "I knew I missed that one" syndrome. The bane of my existence.
Speaking of tests, not too long ago I got to take the test for Navy promotion. Now, most of this test covers knowledge of my job... problem is, I technically haven't started my job yet (due to various confidential issues). So I went into the test with essentially no way of actually preparing for it. Needless to say, I doubt I'll be getting promoted this cycle.
Ah well, in six months I'll get another shot, and hopefully by then, I'll actually have the job knowledge to actually do well on the test.
Concerts with solos sound nerve wracking.
No kidding. It sure doesn't help that now, every time I have a solo, I envision that part of my score turning blue and above it there's an indicator of what percent of the notes I hit correctly...
Well, not that I've done much with actual concerts. Lately, though, I have been shadowing to join my church's worship team as a saxophone player. And yes, it does look like I will get solos.
I must say, it really is nice to actually be plugged in to a church for once. (It's something I've admittedly not done earlier in my life...) Besides the worship team thing, I also am part of two small groups, one with other men my age and one with a bunch of married couples, of which I am the only single person there.
