I don't believe we have a thread for this character yet, and if we do, mods please move this post there.
In the sudden flurry of new pictures from the start of filming, one of the pictures caught my attention....

Picture number 3/6 down below in the line up. Is there any chance the lady following along behind probably-Digory is Aunt Letty? She could be an extra, but as an actress she looks REALLY familiar. I can't place her though.
Very typical of the mid 50s. She's wearing a smart suit that suggests middle class, middle aged.
Should be a bystander, but she's following the boy almost in step, oddly. On the other hand, why would he need his aunt to take him to school?
AND if everyone else is wearing summer dresses and light headscarves, why is she in a suit, AND if it's summer, aren't the schools on holiday?
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."
On the other hand, why would he need his aunt to take him to school?
Swim lessons? Just kidding (sort of).
Well, if they set it up to where his mom is sick and his dad is out of the picture and he just moved in with his Aunt and Uncle, he potentially wouldn't know where anything is at, so she could be escorting him to any number of places, and he doesn't want anything to do with her. Maybe????
But I'm more curious if anyone recognizes the actress there. Again, she could just be an extra and not have a major role in the film. Just something that caught my eye.
@fantasia but not in his thick school uniform, with his satchel - a smart new one with the extra pocket. She has clearly bought him a new uniform with room to grow (the blazer looks long on the right side of the photo)
(NB boys at my school in the early 60s didn't wear their satchel across the body as on this photo, but on their back, with the long strap around the front of each of their shoulders and back of the neck)

I'd say she's probably not related to Digory, since in this photo here the same lady is a bit further behind him amongst other people, so looks much less connected to him as she does in the first photo

She does though kind of look like an Emma Thompson esque actress, but im guessing it's just a random extra.
I went back and rewatched the clip on YouTube and came to the same conclusion.
I was wondering if people think Aunt Letty will even be cast in this movie?
@fantasia It's a great role! The respectable middle aged woman holding her family together, running a home for her eccentric brother (who has mishandled all her money), and taking care of her sick sister and her nephew. Possibly employing one or more domestic staff. Trying to keep her brother in order, worried about money, no doubt very concerned about Mabel (her baby sister!)

@coracle I agree that Aunt Letty is great and I can't understand why the filmmakers would want to cut her. But I also don't understand why they would want to cast an actress, as opposed to an actor, as Aslan or reset the story in the 1950s or have Jadis dress like a character from a cheesy sci-fi series. I think that's what Fantasia was getting at.
For better or worse-for who knows what may unfold from a chrysalis?-hope was left behind.

@col-klink but this thread is about Aunt Letty!
I definitely hope they will cast her. In some ways she is a forerunner of Mrs Macready, although that is not from any intention of the author.

I hadn't considered this possibility before. Hmmm...
Personally, I feel like Aunt Letty is too pivotal to Uncle Andrew’s character to leave out. Plus, knowing how much Gerwig loves dialogue, I’d actually expect her to expand on existing characters (or even add new ones) rather than cut someone like Aunt Letty.
